MISTER TULIP 2006

April 1st till 25th 2006

In spring time 2006, the 7 th ediction of MISTER TULIP offered the blooming of over 50.000 tulips in the enchanted grove of the English garden, which was the project of Xavier Kurten, famous director who worked with Pelagio Pelagi.

Walking through tulips-fields in the English garden of Pralormo in the scent of roses, lilacs and peonies disclosed the coloured fascinating world of tulip turning a relaxing country day into an unforgettable experience.

Each edition of MISTER TULIP, besides the general tulips' subject deals with a specific reference to a theme: the 2006 MISTER TULIP event, beside and inside the bothanical topics, was about tales and fairies

which perfectly fit in the fascinating historical park.

Visiting the park the medieval castle of Pralormo, on piedmontese hills of Roero and Langhe and a few miles away from the Racconigi Royal Castle on Piedmont, offer a special occasion for discovering a region of incredible features, and its capital Turin, a town offering many secret facets to visitor.

Piedmontese products, flowers and gourmandises were for sale and taste in the trading area of the exhibition along with summer bulbs (tulip bulbs can be ordered, they'll be delivered next autumn, just in time for planting)

MISTER TULIP 2005

In spring-time, the Pralormo castle lived the “tulipomania” which blew up in XVII century: 50.000 Dutch tulips made up an extraordinary and amazing, colourful spectacle in the historical park where large fields of Olympic Flame tulip and a brand new tulip that Dutch growers have specially dedicated to Torino enlighted the 2006 Winter Olympic Games and its home-town,.

A cosy garden brang visitors into the history of tulip since XIII century: collection of wild species, the spidery petalled T.acuminata and the needle-pointed Turkish tulips, the first tulips seen in Europe in XVI century and the rounded, cup-shaped flower created by european tulip breeders: from the XVII century Rembrandt tulips with their striped flashing colours to the amazing latest news cultivar selected: fringed, double and viridiflora tulips.

BEYOND THE

AUTUMN 2003.
OCTOBER
1st  -' NOVEMBER 16th  2003

PALAZZO BAROLO - TORINO

High prestige historical palazzo in central Turin

Exhibition structure:

The exhibition developed around a tiny japanese garden situated in a small internal courtyard, a protected and intimate area that not only creates an atmosphere but also represents the profound feeling for natural cycles that penetrate both the culture and the civilisation of Japan, while offering the visitor a glance at the characteristics of the botany as well as the art of landscape gardening of Japan.

In this japanese garden visitors encountered the refined atmosphere of the Palazzo Barolo, where they discovered an extraordinary private collection of kimono and fabrics as well as an interesting exhibition of the contemporary production of the Tokamachi Textile Association , since 27 years sister-city of Como, Italy

Part One- Exhibition structure: A private collection of wonderful old Kimono

The theme “ Twenty-four seasons ” was chosen in order to familiarize the visitors with a typically Japanese approach to the natural cycles as expressed in the art of kimono. The “journey through the seasons” developed along a path that spirals around a small Japanese garden. The display of kimono, season by season, was animated by non-textile objects: photographs, artifacts and texts chosen as well according to the seasons, in an attempt to give a certain order to en epoch which embraces an all too vast assortment of kimono and other manufactures.

Where possible, certain aesthetic concepts were indicated so that the visitors can “touch” a culture that has much to say to our own, thanks to our common appreciation of refinement and good taste in clothing.

PART TWO -Exibition structure: A collection of modern fantastic Kimono from Tokamachi, the snow country in Japan

The kimono today : significance, use and traditions. Exhibition of kimono and accessories in contemporary production of Tokamachi , wich has old history

The exhibition's route, turning round the central Japanese garden and unfolding in a circular way like a round-the-time journey, lead to exhibitions spaces dedicated to contemporary kimono, all shipped for the first time to Italy on purpose, from Tokamachi, the sister-city of Como.

The first arrangement showed the leading theme of kimono for ceremony dressed by Japanese in special social occasions or ritual circumstances: kimono worn by children in occasion of hichi-go-san party, wedding ceremony kimono called iro-uchikake but also the shiromuku , another bride's all-white kimono.

The other arrangement recreated the sensation of a typical Japanese kimono show-room for hypothetical customs, with kimono and suggested relative obi (long and thick wrapping band which is knotted behind the back in many styles), with rice-paper cover containing kimono fold with a precise procedure, with screens and furniture inspired to Japan displaying obi-jime and obi-age (kimono accessory) in colours shading off.

Part Three- Japan Today

This section offered a sign of the new Japan: the youth and alternative culture that in these last years has made Japan a reference point for trends in fashion and design. The scenographies offered a suggestive, certainly not exhaustive, slice of what is the new Nippon culture.

Visitors felt like entering in the Yamamoto line- a circular subway line that cuts through Tokyo city: ground painted lines directed visitors on a set route, hall-like structures closed in a cul de sac to a subway car; typical sound and messages, wall projections showed Tokyo by day and night; a recreated underground environment with department stores just like in the usual subway stops and a rush of voices and incomprehensible sounds.

Walls hold pages of daily news journals and mangas; images and informations on different urban tribes; quotations from Hello Kitty to Doraemon and to Atom Boy in order to explain the kawaii generation; fashion, design and techno-fashion.

MAHARAJA

PRALORMO CASTLE (TURIN) SEPTEMBER 27th - OCTOBER 5th 1997

MAHARAJA
INDIA AT PRALORMO CASTLE

Consolata Pralormo found in the historical archives of Pralormo Castle (a middleage castle close to Turin where my family lives since 1600) some letters concerning the formidable work of translating into a european language the monumental sanskrit epic poem The Ramayana.

Infact during XIX century, Count Carlo Beraudo di Pralormo, who was at that time (1839) the Finance Minister of Piedmont, gave the economical support to abbot Gorresio in his work: the first translation of Ramayana into a european language: italian.

The MAHARAJA exhibition, who took place at Pralormo castle in autumn 1997, shown to 35.000 visitors the 12 volumes of the Ramayana and the archives letters; all the property, the gardens, the conservatory, the Orangerie, the farm have been completely transformed into an indian landscape...

The event was meant to show indian beauty, colours, appeal, mistery, dance, music offering the opportunity of visiting an indian market, living some hours into the magic atmosphere of this incredible country.

We involved in our exhibition a lot of people, friends, artists, collectors, enterprises...the best recompense for us have been the fact that many visitors decided to fly in the Maharaja's country!

In september 1996 twenty-three thousand people visited the exhibition "Fragile...fragilissimo" partecipating thereby in the world history of glass and crystal through the centuries.

In may 1995 the exhibition "La vie en rose" presented nurseries specialized in antique roses, scenography reproducing the Malmaison with Giuseppina Bonaparte's roses, a victorian parleur, a parfum workshop and among others attractions, the rose theme was developped through visual art and literature.

In 1994 there were two exhibitions.
The first dedicated to ornamental citrus fruits and the second to "the art of offering tea". The catalogue of the plants and herbarium of the historical gardens (designed by the architect Xavier Kurten in 1828) was completed in 1995.
In the same year the conservatory glass-house originally commissioned a century ago in Paris, was restored and now offers an appropriate space for visitors whishing to consult the records pertaining to the gardens and herbarium.
