THE TEA GARDEN
The plan for placing the "Japanese-style" garden in the court of Barolo Palace on the occasion of the “Beyond the KIMONO” exhibit draws its inspiration from the "tea garden", which is the area next to the building where the tea ceremony takes place. The very limited surface of this area expressly recalls the Roji (dewy path), which is the path inside the garden leading from the dwelling entrance to the room where guests gather to have tea with the master, according to the typical ceremonial that must be attended clad in a kimono. Every hall at ground floor overviews the garden, thus becoming a cosy place where typical Roji ethical and aesthetic ideals are represented, as well as its wabi and sabi poetics composed of harmony, respect, purity and peacefulness principles, messages of both simple beauty and transience.
